# Looking for a Flo alternative? A European period app that does not sell your data

*Written by the PERIOD. team. We make a cycle app ourselves; read this as a guide by makers, with sources. As of October 2026.*

**Short answer:** Flo is a complete app, but if you would rather keep your cycle data in Europe, pick an app under the GDPR that never sells your health data or uses it for advertising. You can switch without losing your history.

## Why women look for an alternative

In 2021 Flo settled with the US Federal Trade Commission, which said Flo shared health data with analytics services including Facebook's and Google's. A US class action settlement followed in 2026. Flo denied wrongdoing and now offers an anonymous mode ([FTC](https://www.ftc.gov/node/73903), [HIPAA Journal](https://www.hipaajournal.com/flo-health-google-flurry-59-5m-settlement-privacy-lawsuit/)). For many women that is a reason to choose an app that was built differently from the start.

## What to look for in an alternative

- Based in the EU, with data stored in the EU.

- Stated plainly in the privacy policy: health data is not sold or used for advertising.

- A public list of sub-processors.

- Free basics, so you do not pay with your data.

- In your own language, including explanations and support.

## PERIOD. as an alternative

PERIOD. is a Dutch app, made by Lisa, who uses it herself every month. Your data is stored encrypted in Frankfurt, we sell nothing and your health data never goes to advertisers. The basics are free, in 19 languages, on iPhone and Android. If you want more there is PERIOD. plus (3.99 per month or 34.99 per year). Every sub-processor is on [one page](https://myperiod.app/sub-processors).

## Switching in three steps

- Request your data in Flo or note your last few periods.

- Add your cycle history to PERIOD.

- Delete your account in your old app if you do not want to leave anything there.

*General information, not legal or medical advice. Flo is a trademark of its owner. Always check the current details with the app itself.*

**Ready to switch? [Download PERIOD. on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/period-cycle-period-tracker/id6757947793) or [on Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.myperiod.android). The basics stay free.**
